Insurgent is the second installment of the series Divergence which is set in a dystopian futuristic Chicago where society is divided into five factions according to skills and aptitude.
The film starts where Divergent left off. In Insurgent, Tris searches for allies and answers in the ruins of Chicago. Tris Prior and Four became fugitives and are on the run being hunted by Jeanine, the leader of the elite and power-hungry Erudite. Jeanine publicly went after the Divergent and spoken about them and how they need to be killed in order to keep a stable nation. Jeanine needed Tris to open a mystery five-sided box which contains answers to some secrets and truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
The plot is predictable and all over the place. The story is not focused and it seems all the effort was concentrated on the special effects which are great. Insurgents are like most franchises where the installment after the first is almost always not better than the initial movie.
The movie only had few actions scenes but it has very good shots specially the urban post-apocalyptic cityscapes. The movie is slow on some parts but definitely faster than the first installment. It is not the best young-adult movie but it is a good entertainment for two hours. The movie is not awful, just dull and predictable.
It stars Shailene Woodley as Tris Prior, Theo James as Four, Kate Winslet as Jeanine with Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer is minor roles. Directed by Robert Schwentke.
The Divergent series is one of my favorite movie series apart from the MCU of course. I enjoy all these movies on my TV through firestick iptv.
